I was in bea just above. I hear a two or three screams: it

was apparently a female voice: the sounus seenec to come

from the Asylum: I cant fix the time nearer than between 6

and 7: the cries were not before 6: I did not recognise the

voice: I told the boy o. auty to go and see what was the

matter. Next morning I asked Cumming if he was in the Fe-

male Wara the evening before: he said "yes, I was there

and have been there many times before. "

Chu Tai states:- I an night boy this week: I go on

duty from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m.. I saw Wardmaster Cumming the day

before yesterday at 6 p.m. he was standing o.. verandah up-

stairs. Iwas upstairs also: I aiu not see any thing peculiar

about him: he remained there sometime and then left. At 11

p.m. I saw him again also at 2 a.m.: at 11p.m. he asked me

if all was right. I said :yes:. His breath smelleu of wine

at û p.m.. I ala not hear any screams that evening. Mekil-

lop did not senu me gown: he ala not speak to a me: he

asked me to draw a ginger beer bottle cork.

Tong Yu states:- I am Lunatic Asylum Ward boy. I remen-

ber day before yesterday. Night before last I hearu Clm-

ming call out "aaah, aah" this was just after 0.50 p.m.

the noise proceeded from downstairs: I was upstairs. I heard

no screams. I say Cumming on verandah. I noticed nothing

about him. I am certain it was Cumming calling for ah. I

went to landing of stair-case and looked down. It was not

a woman's voice calling for amah. I did not speak to Cun-

ming that evening. I saw him l0 feet off stooping down on

the verandah.
